Melcura Mesh 10 × 10 cm is a sterile primary wound dressing manufactured by Medika SA and impregnated with 100% medical-grade Fynbos honey. Made from a coarse mesh fabric, this dressing is designed to support the management of suitable acute and chronic wounds, particularly wounds producing moderate to heavy exudate.
The medical-grade Fynbos honey has osmotic properties that help draw fluid into the wound environment. Its natural properties may help inhibit bacterial growth, support wound-odour management and assist autolytic debridement, the body's natural process of loosening and removing dead or devitalised tissue.
The mesh is intended to be placed directly on the wound as a primary dressing. It must be covered with an appropriate secondary absorbent dressing, such as gauze or a suitable foam dressing, to manage drainage and help keep the primary dressing in place.
