Purpose:Treats severe low blood sugar when the patient cannot eat or drink or is unconscious.
Action:Glucagon stimulates the liver to release stored sugar into the blood.
Preparation:Inject the water into the vial, shake gently until dissolved, and draw the solution back into the syringe.
Dosage:Full dose (1 mg) for adults/children over 12; half dose mg) for children under 12.
Administration:Intramuscular (IM) or subcutaneous (SC) injection in the upper arm, thigh, or buttocks.
Recovery:Patients usually wake up within 10–15 minutes. Immediately upon waking, provide fast-acting glucose, followed by a long-acting carbohydrate meal.
